re-animating the bacteria

The LB agar created two days ago solidified in the plates, and thus we could continue with trying to resurrect the E. Coli bacteria that we got in lyophilized (basically dry-frozen) form. To do that, one has to add some sterile water, and then streak the bacteria out on the agar plates, which already contain food for them in the form of LB (hence the name LB agar).

The reason for lyophilizing is the same as for when you deep-frozen buy food: so that the bacteria can stay that way for a long time, without needing to eat, etc.

So that’s what we do, we add some of the tranformation solution instead of sterile water as that’s sterile anyway to the lyophilized bacteria, and then get them on the LB agar plate, so they can eat & rejoice. To make them even more happy, we put then in the incubator at 37 oC, so that they will grow overnight.
